Group Research: Mechanism History and Examples

Working with your group, take a look at your toys and determine the similarities and differences. Think about the mechanisms but also manufacturing techniques, fasteners, materials, etc.

Choose a mechanism to focus on as a group. If all your toys share a similar type of mechanism, go for that direction. If you have some differences, choose one together that you feel is most interesting and rich for research.

Together, conduct research on your mechanism and develop a short (5-8 min) presentation for next week. The presentation can include, but is not limited to:

-Definitions on specific terminology for your mechanism

-History (who invented it, what are some other interesting applications)

-How the mechanism may relate to the lever mechanism we discussed today

-Manufacturing techniques involved

-Similarities/Differences with the mechanism amongst your own toys

-Animations, technical drawings, sketches, etc.

-Videos showing the operation of your mechanisms

-Physical models

Groups:

Josh, Sim, Sonny Nakyung, Lily, Jack, Chumou Kai, Angel, Karina Anvay ,Tres, Lingyi Lang, Michelle, Anika

Please be sure to create the presentation in a shareable format (Google Slides, PDF, Prezi, etc.) and DM me a link by midnight 9/20. We will be presenting these in class on 9/21 so be prepared!
