Build an automaton using the mechanisms we have learned so far this semester. Your automaton must:
-Have a theme inspired by a fable, folktale, myth or legend. Do your research in order to respectfully represent the story’s culture. Some places to look for inspiration:
https://mythlok.com/world-mythologies/
https://www.worldoftales.com/browse_all_folktales.html#gsc.tab=0
-Utilize mechanisms we’ve learned about in our lectures: inclined plane, lever, shaft, cranks, simple linkages and/or cams. The overall complexity of your automaton doesn’t need to be high, but it must include more than a single crank. If in doubt, please DM me with individual questions.
-Be made of wood, acrylic, or cleanly cut chipboard/foamcore (you may use the laser cutter but don’t use the 3D printer or CNC for this project)
-Be less than 50cm x 50cm x 50cm in size
-Be functional (robust enough that it can be presented live and not fall apart)
October 3rd: Project Proposal due
October 10th: Prototype Review
October 17th/October 24th: Presentations (See note below)
<aside> 💡 Note: Half the class will present their work on October 17th and the other half on October 24th. All presentations are due by midnight October 16th.
